—–--Goo goo for Gaga?

Whether you love her or not, there’s no denying that Lady Gaga has joined the ranks of the most influential people today.

After inking a deal with Target—Gaga held a meeting with the execs and demanded they stop funding anti-gay groups.

Subsequently, Target has rescinded any and all financial support to anti-gay groups and has made a donation of $500,000 to LGBT(lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender) groups.

Isn’t this news kind of insane? The fact that Lady Gaga is powerful enough to change one of the biggest corporations is pretty mind-blowing. Imagine if Lady Gaga was a creepy Christian who hated gay people. That alternative is terrifying.

Regardless of your feelings about Gaga, it’s important to note that she’s a progressive liberal who has been named by Time Magazine as 2010′s Most Influencial Person, beating out the Queen of Daytime Television herself, Oprah Winfrey. Whoa. That’s quite an impressive feat. And so American.

So how is someone who is on every street corner –riding the wave for so long, without over-exposing herself?

Answer? Lady Gaga has done what I’ve coined in the past, building your personal brand, or as what she calls it: “Mastering The Art of Fame.”

The power of self branding is the idea that you are what you reveal about yourself.

Lady GAGA does this well:

First off, she uses the media as much as they use her. She intentionally wears her outfits not only to describe her state of mind, but it also allows her to express her self. Appeasing the media while diverting attention away from her “personal” life. Letting her keep a little something to herself.

“Pay attention to my clothing and not my personal life.”
